Featuring tremendous flexibility and depth of customization, Tracking Tools is OptiTrack’s engineering-grade 3D point cloud and rigid body tracking toolkit. It’s perfect for scientific and sports motion tracking, when exceptional accuracy, low latency, and complete control are essential.
Track objects in 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF)
Create custom rigid bodies to match your specific tracking needs. Track a variety of object shapes with flexible marker arrangements, multiple simultaneous objects, share markers across different objects, and add extra markers or cameras for improved redundancy. Easily track HMDs, body segments, weapons, sports equipment, models and props, interactive controllers—essentially any object that you can attach markers or LEDs to.
High level tracking filters and constraints can be implemented to finely restrict whether markers or rigid bodies are tracked. Parameters include roundness, size, and quality for markers, as well as dynamic and static motion constraints for rigid bodies. Smoothing can also be applied to any tracking axis in real-time.
Real-time data streaming
Built-in support for industry standard VRPN and trackd protocols makes integrating real time tracking data with your applications a snap. Stream to or from your application using the included network transport for convenient cross-platform communication. For a wider range of data streaming types, use OptiTrack's NatNet SDK.
Data recording and playback
Tracking Tools can record multiple takes of data as timelines, each of which contain 2D marker data from every camera. Timelines can be cropped and appended with new recordings, and recorded data can be submitted for repeated reconstruction with new point cloud parameters.
Data export
Export recorded data in standard C3D and CSV formats for both motion capture & analysis and charting/graphing tracking results.

Multiple simultaneous capture volumes
Assemble cameras into multiple groups for simultaneous capture in separate volumes, with all groups running on a single instance of Tracking Tools. Each group can be partitioned with bounding boxes and distinguished in-software with color-coordinated volumes, cameras, tracked objects, and markers. Camera groups are useful for the deployment of multiple tracking volumes, such as pods in a shooting gallery.
Interleave cameras for higher frame rates
Capture at higher frame rates with interleaved camera groups using shutter offsets in a single capture volume. Staggering the frame cycles of multiple overlapping camera groups allows each group to alternate tracking the same objects. By combining the tracking data of interleaved volumes—each individually capturing at their maximum frame rate—it is possible to multiply the capture rate of your system.
Single camera tracking algorithms
Full 6DoF object tracking is possible with a single camera using OptiTrack's proprietary vector technology. Single camera, single marker 3 DoF tracking is also available with projection tracking. Both vector and projection single camera tracking modes can be integrated into multiple-camera environments. This allows for the simultaneous tracking of multiple objects using vector technology or tracking those objects mixed with point clouds.

Beautiful visualizations are available for nearly all of Tracking Tools’ numerous calibration and tracking features—useful both for visual analysis and compelling presentation.
Customizable user interface
Tracking Tools' user-interface is tremendously flexible and adaptable, enabling you to organize its layout according to workflow and preference. Move, resize, stack, and tab settings panes. Create multiple viewports for simultaneous visualization of a variety of view types and angles. Build custom, floatable toolbars for easy access to tasks and menu items. Once you have created your ideal interface, you can save projects for persistent UI layout, settings, camera arrangements, calibration, and trackable objects. It is also possible to save out camera calibration, recordings, and trackable objects individually in their own files.
