Troubleshooting Guide
1. Common Problems and Errors
1.1 Software loads and runs, but green light on unit does not blink.
1.2 “Unspecified USB device” error message.
1.3 Erratic tracking, cursor “jumps” around the screen.
1.4 In Dot mode the unit stops tracking me when I move the cursor to the edges of the screen.
1.5 When I move my Head/Ring/Hat/etc., the cursor moves in a different direction than I do.
1.6 Cursor movement feels “mushy.”
1.7 : Computer Locking Up, and I Use Windowblinds.
1.8 : Cursor Locking Up, and I Use Zone Alarm.
1.9 : Unable to proceed past driver signing during hardware install.
2. Software Problems
2.1 Software loads and runs, and green indicator light blinks, but the cursor does not move.
2.2 All or some of my Hot Keys will not work.
2.3 NaturalPoint Software runs whenever I restart the computer.
2.4 When using the Dwell Clicking feature, the system clicks faster/slower than I would like.
2.5 When using the Magnet feature, the cursor locks onto undesired icons or does not lock onto desired icons.
2.6 None of the speed settings feel right.
2.7 Even in Slow speed, the cursor moves too fast to control.
2.8 I enter a new hot key, and the number 255 appears instead of the key I entered.
1.1 : Software loads and runs, but green light on unit does not blink.
CAUSE
1. Improper installation of software or hardware.
2. Improper unit alignment.
SOLUTION(S):
1. If you connected the SmartNAV™ unit before installing the software, do this: Disconnect the SmartNAV™ unit. Right click on My Computer. Go to Properties. Click on Device Manager. Double click on USB devices. If you see a device listed as "unknown" or "?" remove that device and reconnect the SmartNAV™ unit. If you see a device listed as "ECT tracker board" then this is not the problem.
2. Click the Advanced Settings icon on your NaturalPoint software screen. Open Data Window and click Run and Highlight active object. Place a dot on your forehead or place the ring accessory on your finger and aim the unit at the object you wish to track. Continue adjusting the unit until a yellow dot appears near the center of the Data window

CAUSE
1. Improper installation of software or hardware.

SOLUTION(S):
1. If you connected the SmartNAV™ unit before installing the software, do this: Disconnect the SmartNAV™ unit. Right click on My Computer. Go to Properties. Click on Device Manager. Double click on USB devices. If you see a device listed as "unknown" or "?" remove that device and reconnect the SmartNAV™ unit. If you see a device listed as "ECT NaturalPoint Tracker" then this is not the problem.
2. Click the Advanced Settings icon on your NaturalPoint software screen. Open Data Window and click Run and Highlight active object. Place a dot on your forehead or place the ring accessory on your finger and aim the unit at the object you wish to track. Continue adjusting the unit until a yellow dot appears near the center of the Data window.
1.3 : Erratic tracking, cursor “jumps” around the screen.
CAUSE
1. Interference from another light source.
2. Multiple dots in field of view.
SOLUTION(S):
1.Click the Advanced Settings icon on your NaturalPoint™ software screen. Open the Data Window and click Run and Highlight Active Object.
You should see one yellow dot surrounded by a red box.
If you see more than one yellow object in this window, or the red box jumps from one dot to another, check for mislaid dots in the SmartNAV™'s 50 degree field of view.
If there are no other dots in the field of view and the problem persists, check for highly reflective items or direct light sources in the background.
Move these objects, or reposition your computer.
1.4 : In Dot mode the unit stops tracking me when I move the cursor to the edges of the screen.
CAUSE
1. Incorrect Speed setting.
2. Improper unit placement.
3. Too much distance between the user and SmartNAV™ unit.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Select the next highest speed setting.
2. Click the Advanced Settings icon on the SmartNAV™ software screen.
Open Data Window and click Run and Highlight active object.
You should see one yellow dot surrounded by a red box.
Move your head so the cursor travels from one side of the screen to the other.
If the yellow dot in the data window stops moving at any point, reposition the SmartNAV™ unit and repeat the previous step.
3. Try sitting closer to your computer, or move the SmartNAV™ unit closer to you. The SmartNAV works best when placed less than 20 feet from whatever accessory you are using.
1.5 : When I move my Head/Ring/Hat/etc., the cursor moves in a different direction than I do.
CAUSE
1. Incorrect Rotation setting.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Click on the Advanced Settings icon on the NaturalPoint software screen. Find the Rotation Menu.
If your unit is placed on top of your monitor or in front of your keyboard check the box marked 0.
If your unit is clipped to the right side of your monitor, check the box marked 90.
If clipped to the left side of your monitor, check the box marked 270.
If your unit is upside down check the box marked 180
1.6 : Cursor movement feels “mushy.”
CAUSE
1. Incorrect Smoothing setting.
SOLUTION(S):
1.Click on Advanced Properties.
Move the "Smoothing" slider bar to the left.
1.7 : Computer Locking Up, and I Use Windowblinds.
Problem :
1. This is a known issue with the Windowblinds program from Stardock.
This happens due to the Windowblinds program attempting to re-skin the NaturalPoint window. This causes the computer to either crash or lock up, and then requires the system to be re-started.
The operating systems that are affected : Windows 2000, XP, Me and 98.
Solution :
1. To rectify, go to the Windowblinds setup and set the NaturalPoint window not to be re-skinned.
1.8 : Cursor Locking Up, and I Use Zone Alarm.
Problem :
1. This is a known issue with Zone Alarm. If you open the Zone Alarm interface then all cursor control is lost, until you manually move the mouse.
The operating systems that are affected are : Windows XP.
Solution :
1. Set "NaturalPoint" with all server permissions in the Zone Alarm setup.
2. Set "Glaze Clicker MFC Application" with all server and Access permissions in the Zone Alarm setup.
1.9 : Unable to proceed past driver signing during hardware install.
Problem :
1. Unable to proceed past driver signing during hardware install.
The operating systems that are affected are : Windows 2000, XP.
Solution :
1. Click on the "Start Button" and navigate to "Settings" (optional)\ "Control Panel" and click your "System" icon.
Click on the "Hardware" tab in the window that pops up.
Once this is open, click the "Driver Signing" button.
In the 2nd window that pops up, ensure that the button is checked for "Warn." (if the button is checked for "Block" the hardware will not install).
Carry out the hardware install.

When asked, during the install at the "Driver Signing" window, press the button for "Continue Anyway" and your Hardware will now correctly install.
2.1 : Software loads and runs, and green indicator light blinks, but the cursor does not move.
CAUSE
1. Key Activated Clicking box is checked.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Uncheck the "Key Activated" box on the main software screen.
2.2 : All or some of my Hot Keys will not work.
CAUSE
1. Wrong mode of operation selected.
2. Conflict between selected key function and other system properties.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Ensure that the mode you wish to use is highlighted on the main NaturalPoint™ software screen.
2. Select a different key for this function.
2.3 : NaturalPoint Software runs whenever I restart the computer.
CAUSE
1. Run at start-up box is checked on the Advanced Settings menu.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Click on Advanced Settings.
Uncheck "Run at Start-up" box.
2.4 : When using the Dwell Clicking feature, the system clicks faster/slower than I would like.
CAUSE
1. Dwell Click speed is set too fast/slow.
SOLUTION(S):
Click on Advanced Settings.
Click on the Dwell tab.
Adjust the slider bar marked Dwell Click speed.
This will be saved as your new Dwell Click speed.
2.5 : When using the Magnet feature, the cursor locks onto undesired icons or does not lock onto desired icons.
CAUSE
1. Wrong icons selected for Magnet feature.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Click on Advanced Settings.
Find the Magnet Menu.
Uncheck the boxes next to the icons that you do not want the cursor to lock onto.
2.6 : None of the speed settings feel right.
CAUSE
1. Incorrect speed settings.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Click on Advanced Settings.
Adjust the slider bar titled "Speed."
Move this bar to the left for slower speeds, and to the right for faster speeds.
This new setting will appear as "Custom" below the "Fast" speed button for whichever mode you have selected, on the main software screen.
2.7 : Even in Slow speed, the cursor moves too fast to control.
CAUSE
1. 2X Scaling box is checked.
SOLUTION(S):
1. On the main software screen.
Find the 2X Scaling box above the Scaling slider bar (bottom right).
This is a 3D button. Down is ON, and up is OFF. Press the button so that it is in the OFF position.
2.8 : I enter a new hot key, and the number 255 appears instead of the key I entered.
CAUSE
1. The key you entered is already defined as another Hot Key.
SOLUTION(S):
1. Reassign that Hot Key to a new unassigned key.
