TrackIR Enhanced Games : Orbiter

Orbiter is a free flight simulator that goes beyond the confines of Earth's atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system - the choice is yours. But make no mistake - ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep. Be prepared to invest some time and effort to brush up on your orbital mechanics background.

Key features include:

Realistic physics. Planetary motion, gravitation effects, free space and atmospheric flight are accurately modelled.
You can land your ship at a space port on a planet surface, or dock to an orbital station.
High resolution planetary maps provide some nice visual effects.
Configurable environment. Users can add planets, space ships and space stations to the existing universe, or design a completely new solar system from scratch.

This game is currently TrackIR Enhanced thanks to Oliver Pieper's third party plug-in (see below), and is expected to have direct support in the next official release thanks to Martin Schweiger.

Please note that the following information is in reference to the latest version of the Orbiter software (version 060929), available for download.

1. Setting Up TrackIR Usage Inside Orbiter
After running the Orbiter.exe file, and launching the Orbiter Launchpad application:

Select the Modules tab
Highlight the TrackIR file, and push the "Activate Selected" button.

You can now select the virtual cockpit mode in-game with the F8 key, and enjoy full 6DOF view control.

2. Changing the TrackIR configuration
After running the Orbiter.exe file, and launching the Orbiter Launchpad application:

Select the "Extra" tab
Highlight "TrackIR Configuration"
Select edit at the bottom of the list
You can now select the different internal and external views that the TrackIR will work in; as well as head rotation, view speed, and dead zone settings.

3. Known TrackIR Hotkey Conflict
Since TrackIR's default hotkeys for Precision and Pause clash with Orbiter key commands, we recommended creating a new TrackIR profile just for use with this title, and assigning different hot keys (suggested changes: F8 -> Shift + F12; F9 -> Pause).

(Please note: We are also working with the simulation's main developer, and hope to have support included with the title soon.)
