This free Plugin was created by Emmanuel Airault, and inserts a fully 3D wireframe cockpit and pilot into this already insanely detailed simulation. His site has 7 cockpits ready for download, and a budding tutorial on how to create your own out of any aircraft you're already flying. With X-Cockpit in place, X-Plane just went to the next level!

To get 6 DOF support in X-Plane, using the PilotView plug-in, please use the following steps.

Install and/or update the latest version of X-Plane. Currently that is version 9.00, and can be downloaded at the X-Plane website
Download the latest PilotViewWin.zip file, to your system desktop, from the following website **Thank you to Sandy Barbour for this plug-in
Extract the file to your desktop
Copy the plug-in file to your X-plane install location. Default location to copy the file to is: C:\Program Files\X-Plane\Resources\plugins
Start the TrackIR software
Start the X-Plane software
Once X-Plane has finished loading, go to the menu bar (at the top of the screen) and select Plugins->Pilot View->Enable. This will activate the 6 DOF support within X-Plane. You can also enable just 2 DOF support within X-Plane by selecting the following option: Plugins->Pilot View->TIR Enable

To enable 5 DOF support within the latest beta version of X-Plane, using the built-in support TrackIR support, please use the following steps:

Install and update X-Plane 9, using the beta updates within the updater options
Start the TrackIR software
Start the X-Plane software
In the software, go to the menu bar -> Settings -> Joystick & Equipment. On the equipment tab, check the box next to Track-IR head tracker then exit the menu
Now select the Virtual cockpit using CTRL-o and enjoy
